The first day of [b] school.

So I was going thru my old photos and I came across this one

and it reminded me of the series that a few photographers and I got to shoot with Becker a while back, before I knew who Becker was. I am such a noob its not even funny.

Here’s how this sadness goes down.

So I was trying to find an opportunity to hang out with a friend of mine Greg Haygood (check out his stuff here its really good), just hang out and shoot the day like we had done once before which yielded some awesome photos of Greg's friend Alynson but thats another post, maybe? we had been trying and trying, finally I had the time to go up to Greg's studio in NJ. When I got there we hung for a bit and he shows me the new place and what the new set-ups gonna look like, then really off the cuff asks me if I wanna go to New York because this guy Becker is having a photo meet up it will be a bunch of photographers just hanging and taking pics. Im like what the hell, new york, photos, me, lets do it....so not concerned about this Becker guy....well we get there, hang, shoot, talk, Becker’s gotten us models to shoot it was a really great night. I learned quite a bit, now that i think about it. B shared his philosophy on shooting with us, which was basically shoot the shit out of it (his words) because we have the tech and the space so why not, we want to catch the moments. All in all an awesome time is had by all, but I never dawns on me that Becker's kind of a big deal.

It wasn't till a few weeks later when I’m doing an edit and some shop work on the pic (yea i know a few weeks later for an edit, so so bad) that I go and look for his blog and then my face drops, I had spent the night with one of the top wedding photographer in the world and the moment was completely over my head. totally lost on me. I bequeath unto myself a boot to the head.

I’ve kinda put this particular moment out of my head until now because I felt embarrassed about my attitude towards the whole thing but in the end I remember some of the stuff we talked about that night and I will bring some of that [b]ness into my work. So it’s a year late but thank you b, your really are un[b]elievable!

This post made me go back and do a re-edit of those pic and here are a few, im gonna try and do a slideshow with what i got, if it turns out good ill post it.

Then after everybody left Greg and I stayed behind and shot this...

The first rule of photography

The first rule of photography is you dont talk about photograghy.....You dont, its bad, so stop it right now!

Im lying so bad, if i’ve learned anything about the creative world from watching people like Jasmine Star this week on creative live, Chase Jarvis when he does his awesome blog post, and reading David Hobby as well as the myriad of other blogs (that my google reader is giving me now cuz i just learn that it exist!) is that you always talk about your craft cause thats how you learn and grow.

Thats not the first rule of photography, but this is...Always have your camera with you!!!

Its a hard and fast rule you cant make a picture without it, and its a rule i haven't been following. When i first started i alway had my camera i think my first year i had about 10,000 photos in my collection of anything and everything and over the last year and a half or so i started carrying my camera less i kinda got full of myself. I was like “I’ll only take pictures when im working cuz im a pro and i need to get paid when I shoot”(total ego trip) and it came back and bit me in the butt...I started looking at the images I been taking over the last year and i thinking these are just ok. fine yea there are a few stand outs but i dont feel like i have groups of images to brand myself as a professional photographer, so in essence I’m not. I have a very expensive hobby

It took till a few days ago after watching a true photographer Jasmine Star bear her soul about how she makes her art and what it took to get there, to remind me why i want to be a photographer, its for the joy of making images and catching moments. and in this business its 20% pictures and 80% branding. theres alot of work to do.

so Im back photography, did you miss me?

Burly Girls Gone Wild! (NSFW)

So once a month i get to spend the night with a group of lovely ladies in nothing but their pasties...... But sadly this month I wont be able to go to the show, so instead of lending the girls my lens, i thought i would give them a shout out on the interwebs!

This post is Not Safe for Work.

Bravissimo Burlesque is a monthly revival of the beautiful art of burlesque put on by the ever talented Lil Steph and Miss Rose. The show features performances from these ladies as well as various performers from all over.

Meet Miss Rose and Lil Steph....hot chiwawa!

Hosted at Wine-O Philadelphia Wine Bar and Restaurant the show is tucked away in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia and has plenty of action and drinks to go around. I've seen quite a bit at these shows from fireworks, tikki dances, and grandmas gone wild.
So unless you have a better way to spend the last saturday of the month I think you might wanna go and check it out....there’s a show coming soon!

But in case you need more convincing

Come watch Betty Rubble Rose, shake, rattle, and roll.

Philadelphia performer Louise La Tease is a frequent performer an welcome gift to any show and this was no different. "It's a coin operated boy!"

See what happens when grandma Steph gets in the liquor cabinet, oh
and did i forget to mention the Burly Guy?!

Check out the girls Facebook page for up coming shows!

And So, It Begins....

As I was sitting here trying to figure out what my first post should be, a scene from a movie popped into my head, where the lead actress is narrating what she writes on her blog as she types. I found myself listening to my own inner monologue as I was typing ...Im doing it write now!!....It made me laugh. It also reminded me of Doogie Howser, which made me laugh more.

But anyway, hello. I am Kris with a K, why with a k? Well if you ask my mom its because she didn't have a t.v. to watch while waiting on me to be born, so I got a K– As for the rest of my name, she says she was just bored. Great, she’s bored and I get five names out of the deal.

To kick start my blog I thought about the best way to introduce myself and figured that a top 10 list of random things about me post would be the best way to give alot of info in a short amount of time and because I’ve never done one before.

So here we go...

Number 10. I like anime for as many geeky reasons as you can think of, but also because I use to draw and I felt anime was the best of all the drawing I had seen  up to that point.

Number 9.  One time I drove Ana Gasteyer to set from her home in New York. Most nerve racking thing I have done to date. She was great but it was a day of first, the first film I ever worked on, the first time I had worked with a SAG actress, the first time I had ever driven in New York, It was a lot and started off as a complete train wreck....my nerves that day were shot.

Number 8.  I have driven over 150mph.... with my grandmother no less, we were on a road trip. it was awesome.

Number 7. Myself and another talented photographer Kevin shot a calendar known as Charlie’s Rippers, It is pin up meets serial killers think Charlie’s Angels and Jack the Ripper, get it!

Number 6. I think I should walk around with a calendar stapled to my forehead, because Im bad, very bad with dates, for years my mothers birthday was always 2 days after it really was and you couldn't tell me otherwise.

Number 5. My favorite pictures are from the moon landing, especially the earth rise photograph.

Number 4. The things that fall out of my head are often strange, but seem to keep the people in my house laughing.

Number 3. I have never beat the computer at chess and I’ve tried!, oh I've tried.

Number 2. I can’t smell. Correction I can’t smell properly due to terrible allergies, i smell very strong odors but for the most part obvious(I was also oblivious to the fact I spelled this wrong till just now, so bad).

Number 1. I want to learn 4 other languages. Japanese, French, Mandarin, and Spanish.
